Kim Bui Barnett is Senior Director for the CNN Special Projects team responsible for creating cross-platform editorial content that drives revenue for CNN Worldwide, including the Impact Your World franchise. The short form, human interest content produced by her group includes health & wellness, innovation, small business, travel and positive stories on people and organizations making a difference. These series have garnered multiple awards including the Gracie Allen Award, the National Association of Black Journalists Salute to Excellence Award, New York Festivals International TV& Film Award, and the National Association for Multi-Ethnicity in Communications Vision Award.
Barnett has held many leadership roles that focus on increasing diversity awareness both within and outside CNN. In her effort to improve the quality and substance of inclusion, Barnett is an active member of CNN’s Diversity Council, a mentor with the Imerman Angels, and a founding member of the TurnerAsia Business Resource Group. She has served in every leadership role for the Atlanta Chapter of the Asian American Journalists Association and was board president for Refugee Family Services, now New American Pathways. In 2015, Barnett was one of the inaugural CNN Diversity Ovation Award honorees, recognized for her commitment to diversity and inclusion.
Prior to joining CNN, Barnett worked as a reporter for the Marietta Daily Journal in Marietta, Georgia and graduated with a degree in Communications from Kennesaw State University.
